Projections Data
Column Definitions & Calculation Logic
| Column | What It Is | How It's Calculated |
|---|---|---|
| Potential Wealth | Your "Hodl" Value |
The theoretical value of your portfolio if you never sold a single satoshi. It purely tracks the projected appreciation of your assets (Bitcoin Power Law + MSTR Multiplier + Other Assets). Σ (Asset_i × Growth_i)
|
| Actual Balance | Your Living Wallet |
This is your real-world portfolio balance accounting for withdrawals. It starts equal to Potential Wealth, but once you retire, we subtract your annual spending (grossed up to its pre-tax withdrawal amount) every single year. Balt-1 × (1 + Growth) - Spend
|
| Indep. Target | Your Goal Post |
The "Number" needed to sustain your lifestyle indefinitely. Calculated as your annual spend (adjusted for inflation), grossed up to its pre-tax withdrawal amount, divided by your Withdrawal Rate, with your safety margin applied. This is the net Independence Number — it nets out your income bridge before this math runs. See the Gross Independence Number in your FI Snapshot for the income-offset-free figure. (Spend × (1+Inf)t / (1−Tax) / WR) × (1+Safe)
|
| Growth % | Portfolio Performance |
The weighted average growth rate of your entire portfolio for this specific year. As Bitcoin's growth slows down over time (Power Law), this rate will naturally decrease. Σ (Alloc_i × AssetGrowth_i)
|
| DWZ % | Die With Zero Rate |
The percentage you must withdraw this year to hit $0 exactly at your "Plan Until" age. It acts like a reverse annuity—calculating the max safe payout based on remaining years and expected growth. reff = forward-looking average portfolio CAGR + spending decline rate. Rate = reff / (1 - (1+reff)-Years)
|
| DWZ Balance | DWZ Wallet |
A parallel simulation of your portfolio balance. Unlike your Actual Balance (which uses a fixed withdrawal rate), this path uses the dynamic DWZ % to aggressively spend down your wealth. DWZt-1 × (1+Growth) - WithdrawalDWZ
|
| Trad. 7% | The "S&P 500" Benchmark |
A standard benchmark for comparison. Shows where you would be if you invested in a traditional index fund growing at a steady 7% annually. Valuet-1 × 1.07
|
| WR Income ($) | Target Withdrawal |
Your safe paycheck. The gross amount you must withdraw from your portfolio each year. It starts with your inflation-adjusted annual spend, subtracts any Income Bridge, then grosses up for taxes. (Spendinflated − Income) / (1 − Tax)
|
| DWZ Income ($) | Maximum Lifestyle |
Your maximum possible spending. This is the amount you could spend this year if you aimed to leave nothing behind. DWZBalance × DWZ%
|
| MC P10 | Pessimistic Path |
The 10th Percentile of Monte Carlo simulations. 90% of randomized market scenarios performed better than this path. Useful for stress-testing your plan. |
| MC P50 | Median Path |
The 50th Percentile of Monte Carlo simulations. The middle-ground outcome of all randomized scenarios. |
| MC P90 | Optimistic Path |
The 90th Percentile of Monte Carlo simulations. Only 10% of randomized market scenarios performed better than this path. |
| Age (Year) | Potential Wealth | Actual Balance | Indep. Target | Growth % | DWZ % | DWZ Balance | Trad. 7% | WR Inc. | DWZ Inc. | MC P10 | MC P50 | MC P90 |

How This Strategy Works
Click any card below to learn the detailed math and logic behind it.
Review & Adjust
Financial independence isn't a "set and forget" destination. Because Bitcoin is volatile,
this
strategy requires flexibility.
Re-run this calculator regularly — at least once a year, or after any major
life
or market event. Adjust your inputs and course-correct.
Risks & Assumptions
Every model has limits. The Power Law is a best-fit regression, not a
guarantee.
Understand the key assumptions, what could go wrong, and how to build resilience into your
plan.
Informed optimism beats blind faith.
Reading Your Chart
The projection chart has 12 data lines across two Y-axes. Each one tells a
different part of your financial story.
Learn what the orange, purple, red,
blue, green, and gray lines mean — and
when
to celebrate.
Bitcoin's Growth Model
Most retirement calculators assume assets grow linearly (e.g., 7% every year).
This tool uses the Bitcoin Power Law, a model based on physics and
adoption. It
projects that Bitcoin grows quickly early on and stabilizes over time. We use the "Support
Line"
(the bottom price) to be conservative.
The Growth Multiplier
This is the "Secret Sauce." We don't just look at what you have today; we look at what it
will
be worth.
If Bitcoin does a 10x by your retirement date, every $10,000 you save today
effectively covers $100,000 of your future needs. This is why the "Gap to
Fill"
might be smaller than you think.
The 8% Rule
Standard advice is the 4% Rule (25x expenses). Because Bitcoin is expected
to
outperform stocks, this strategy suggests an 8% withdrawal rate (12.5x
expenses).
This target (12.5x your annual spend) is what we call your Independence
Number.
Why are the numbers so big?
Inflation. A coffee that costs $3 today might cost $6 in 20 years.
We adjust your "Annual Spend" upward every year (default 3%). This ensures your
Independence Number grows to preserve your lifestyle's purchasing power in
the
future.
Don't Forget the Tax Man
If you need $100k to live, you actually need to withdraw more than $100k to pay
your
Capital Gains Tax.
We calculate the Gross Amount. If your tax rate is 20%, we boost your
target
number so that your net pocket money matches your lifestyle needs.
The "Safety Margin"
Bitcoin is volatile. What if the price crashes 50% the year you retire?
The Safety Margin slider adds a buffer to your target. A 20% margin means
you
aim to have 20% more Bitcoin than strictly necessary, giving you peace of mind
during
bear markets.
The Income Bridge
Short on savings? The calculator shows the "Required Retirement Income"
needed
to plug your gap.
Instead of saving $500k more, you might just need to generate $2,000/mo in side income or
pension starting at retirement. Cash flow can replace capital.
Perpetual vs. Die With Zero
Understand the master toggle. Perpetual Wealth builds an infinite legacy,
while Die With Zero optimizes your life by safely spending down your
principal.
Switching to DWZ significantly lowers your Independence Number and accelerates your
retirement timeline.
Multi-Asset Drift Model
Your portfolio is split across 4 asset classes (BTC, MSTR, Other, Cash),
each
growing independently with no rebalancing.
Withdrawals are taken proportionally from all buckets based on their
current
share of total value. This preserves high-growth assets.
Sensitivity Analysis
See how your plan performs under 4 Bitcoin scenarios: Bear (−½yr behind
Support), Base (Support), Trend (Fair Value), and Bull (+3yr ahead of Trend).
Instantly compare projected portfolios, status, and required DCA across the range.
Monte Carlo Simulation
Replace smooth projections with hundreds of randomized paths.
Get a probability-based answer: "What are the odds my plan works?" with percentile
bands on the chart.
